descends

no longer free, no longer strong,

falling from the dark, growling clouds,
plummeting from heights, beyond stars.

It crashes, tumbling, destroying,

devastating.

And as it shrouds the world I live  (a cloth of terror),

the absence of light deepens.

There is no glimmer.

Sometimes,
that’s enough.

my lips reluctantly reflect
a rainbow; a horseshoe catching
luck; a valley tumbling free from
the mountaintops.

as the wild creatures within my lungs,
clamour to escape
into the freedom of his lungs
i smile.

his words (gentle), my thoughts
(tempting), work magic
in my eyes. soon,
my soul will unlock.

And as each silent star,
Strings out across the beauty…
…the majesty of the oceanic sky…
I am reminded.

Each reminder stabs;
Cutting through flesh and bone and muscle and organ,
Deeper, deeper, deeper still,
The cavities left behind swelling,
A scarlet staining the pale skin,
Above my remaining, beating organ.
It beats, fluttering, weakening.

Stops.

The memories, a flood,
a sea, brown, black, crimson,
Tearing away as I fall
Through the darkness,

Descending.

Then again, perhaps not.

Slowly, tumbling with
The shine of a dew
Drop at dawn,
a single capsule
of salt,
escapes.

It will be al alright.
Please.
It will be alright.

The black lashes clamp shut.
Barring the emotions,
The thoughts,
The ideas.
Escape. What a luxury.

It whispers against
my adamant bones,
(protecting, restraining)

as it tries to sing.

I realise the
soft, sugary taste
of sweet rainclouds,

After an African summer
is enticing each whisper,
promising cold, determined

rain.

The dark substance,
Almost as intense as cacao,
Sends waves of reassurance through me.

I smile softly, briefly closing my eyes,
As I think about the day just passed,
The evening to come.

Steamy whispers comfort me,
With the rich, addictive scent,
And I realise, then and there,

That no matter what comes,
What goes,
It is that which was never there at all,
That I miss most.

Yet as powerful as burning fire,
The movement strong, vast, and so, so strong.

The glistening peaks, and plummeting troughs,
Delve through me,
Piercing my soul,
As I stare from the cold, hard jetty.

I throw a clammy pebble,
Into the midst of the swelling seas,
Watching it crash through the icy surface,
And disappear forever.

My hands return to fleecy pockets,
But the waves,
Rocking and rolling,
In a constant, everlasting torrent of anger,
Laugh at me sullenly.

My mouth twitches into a reluctant smile,
The glimmer of white teeth nothing,
Compared to the full, silver moon,
Reflecting beam upon beam of soft light.

I turn my back to the ocean,
But I remember forever
The strong currents,
The eternal knowledge,
And the deep, deep depths of fiery torment.
